RTP™ Green Fuel is a sustainable, environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuels
    RTP™ Green Fuel is a liquid biofuel produced by pyrolytic (heat) conversion of renewable biomass. It has great potential to economically replace traditional sources of energy like heavy fuel oil. The product mitigates the two major drawbacks of fossil fuels: it can drastically reduce the emission of greenhouse gases and it can be supplied at a stable and secure long-term price due to its renewable nature.

    The product’s most basic application today is as an energy source to generate heat or electricity by firing in industrial boilers, combustion in diesel engines and co-firing in power plants. RTP™ Green Fuel will also be upgrade-able to drop-in fuel status to directly displace gasoline, diesel or even aviation fuel. The technology for converting it to transportation fuels is currently in development by Premium Renewable Energy technology partners and is rapidly approaching availability. This new technology will enable RTP™ Green Fuel to have a significantly larger collective environmental and economic impact.
  • Rapid Thermal Processing™ can utilise a wide range of biomass at high yields

    The Rapid Thermal Process is flexible in the choice of feedstock. This allows us to maximise the value of a wide range of residual biomass, i.e. material that agriculture and industry would consider low-value waste. Among the materials RTP™ can process are:

    • Forestry Waste - Wood chips, sawdust, and bark
    • Agricultural Residues – empty fruit bunches (oil palm EFB), corn stover, bagasse
    • Energy crops – miscanthus, elephant grass

    Premium Renewable Energy is focused on utilising empty fruit bunches (EFB) and Palm Kernel Shell (PKS) from the palm oil industry for RTP™ conversion.


    Rapid Thermal Processing™ is highly efficient and commercially established

    Rapid Thermal Processing™ (RTP) is a biofuel technology developed and commercially used for over twenty years by our technology partner, Ensyn Corporation. Analogous to the Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) process widely used in the petroleum refining industry, RTP™ utilises a circulating fluidised bed reactor system. In the process, biomass is introduced into a vessel and rapidly heated by a tornado of hot sand. The vapour created is then rapidly cooled, instantaneously generating a high yield (approx 75 wt%) of liquid product: RTP™ Green Fuel.

    The process also produces char and non-condensable gas. Both by-products can be harnessed to provide energy to the RTP™ unit, rendering the process self-sustaining.

    RTP™ Green Fuel reduces greenhouse gas emissions

    Adoption of RTP™ Green Fuel in place of fossil fuels for power generation has been calculated to decrease greenhouse gas emissions by up to 88%. Envergent Technologies has conducted tests comparing lifecycle emissions of RTP™ Green Fuel in comparison with those of coal, natural gas, and fuel oil. While fuel oil emissions were approximately 90 grams of carbon dioxide equivalent per megajoule (gCO2eq/MJ), emissions from RTP™ Green Fuel of varying sources were consistently less than 20 gCO2eq/MJ.

    In addition, bio-oil has lower emissions of critical air pollutants sulphur oxide (SOx) and nitrogen oxide (NOx).
